This position will create and execute a comprehensive, integrated advancement communications program that includes verbal, print and electronic components and aligns strategically with all institutional advancement activities, and integrates with University marketing and communications efforts. This position works in close collaboration and partnership with the Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund, and the Director of Leadership Giving to align messages and work; and, will allocate resources to obtain strong return on investment as evidenced through increased philanthropic contributions. This position will also work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to align departmental and University priorities.
Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)
Develops strategic vision, goals and assessment practices for advancement communications effort with verbal, print, event and digital components, including effective use of social media and other emerging technologies.
Develops messaging to inspire support of philanthropic priorities from USJ's external constituencies;
Develops and executes necessary plans and communication vehicles to convey advancement messages to alumni, parents and friends of the institution. Works in close collaboration with Marketing and Communications staff to understand and promote overall University messaging, and integrates such with advancement themes;
Works closely with Vice President of Institutional Advancement to align messaging and work of Annual, Leadership and Planned Giving teams.
Oversees, develops, writes, and edits content for variety of verbal, print and electronic materials;
Ensures established design standards are maintained on all campaign communications.
Keeps current on campaign priorities, and provides clear direction to development colleagues on campaign messaging while integrating feedback from the field as appropriate;
Develops, in collaboration with IA team, engaging concepts and primary messages for advancement events that spark both intellectual and emotional impulses.
Manages workflow through use of outside vendors or in collaboration with other advancement staff as appropriate;
Ensures projects are completed on deadline in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
Supervises Stewardship Coordinator and Coordinator of Meetings and Conference Services .
Serves as liaison to various vendors, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and standards are met.
Prepares and manages annual advancement communications budget.
Serves as member of directors group within IA, and leads by example in support of department goals
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 5 to 7 years relevant experience, preferably in higher education advancement environment
Demonstrated capacities in promotional writing
Demonstrated ability to effectively employ traditional media and emerging platforms
Technological literacy as it relates to viral marketing and effective use of or ideas for social networking tools in a campaign environment.
Strong organizational and planning skills as evidenced through increasing responsibility and references or performance reviews
Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment
Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and other programs as needed. Familiarity with specific applications used by the University/Department a plus.
Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents
Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner; ability to effectively and efficiently develop and execute several key projects simultaneously
Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision
Professional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to engage positively and work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the public
