The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Bioengineering is seeking a Laboratory Technician. The Department of Bioengineering combines hands-on experience with the solid fundamentals that students need to advance themselves in research, medicine, and industry. The Department has a long-standing and unique relationship with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and other academic departments at the University of Pittsburgh as well as neighboring Carnegie Mellon University. Our faculty is shared with these organizations, offering our graduate and undergraduate students access to state-of-the-art facilities and a wide array of research opportunities.
The Laboratory Technician will: - Perform small rodent care, fixation, embedding, microtomy, slide mounting and staining to include H&E staining, enzyme histochemical stains, and immunohistochemical stains - Maintain equipment and instruments used in pathology - Assist with surgery, advanced microscopy, and gross pathology
Training will be provided to develop proficiency in operating electrophysiology, electrochemistry, and microscopy equipment in the acquisition of data from specimens.
Additional duties will include: - Acquiring data from subjects - Processing, archiving and performing analysis of imaging and electrophysiology data - Maintaining related records or several NIH-funded studies
Experience with computer systems management, basic circuits, TTL, MATLAB and/or Labview programming (and work with National Instruments DAC Boards) is desired. The successful candidate has the necessary interpersonal skills to work effectively with faculty and other members of the laboratory. This position will provide opportunities for contributing to publications, grant applications, and project management.
A Bachelor's degree in science or engineering is preferred. Additional University of Pittsburgh experience preferred.
