The Office of College Advancement, with counsel and support from the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Council, Bates Fund Executive Committee, and other key volunteers, develops a cohesive strategic plan for alumni engagement, fundraising, and marketing — one which is thoughtful, innovative, and resourceful, and which strengthens the bonds between constituents and the college. Engaged alumni are essential to the continued health and financial well-being of the college.
The associate director will support the college’s engagement and fundraising priorities by collaborating with the Assistant Vice President of Alumni Engagement and Communications and the Director of Annual Giving to create a comprehensive and cohesive strategy for communications across teams, as well as team-specific plans and ensure seamless integration with other advancement marketing efforts and communications.
Serving as primary point of contact and liaison to Bates Communications Office, the associate director will ensure that Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement communications maintain overarching college brand identity and adhere to strategy. This position acts as a project manager with keen attention to detail regarding timelines, revision processes, and adherence to deadlines for Advancement communications.
This is a full-time, 12 month position. Travel including day and overnight trips is required.

Demonstrated success in the production of effective communications and marketing is required.
Understanding of database systems, business office software, web tools, email marketing, and reporting software.
Demonstrated track record of progressive achievement in Advancement, communications, or marketing/sales.
Possesses a substantial record of successful collaboration with multiple constituencies, including colleagues and external constituents.
Adept marketing and communications skills, strong writing skills, and an interest in collaboration as well as independent work.
Ability to mentor junior professionals.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be energetic, flexible, and collaborative and have a positive attitude.
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills; ability to synthesize complex or diverse information.
Impeccable strategic and organizational skills and ability to coordinate resources and staff.
Ability to both work independently and as a team player while handling multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Keen attention to detail necessary for successful documentation, planning and execution.
Proficiency in basic data management systems and basic computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
High ethical standards; ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
