Global Experience Office Overview: The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity in operating global programs. GEO's own signature programs are carefully designed and operated to complement students' on-campus studies, to deepen students' knowledge of the world and their chosen field of study, develop intercultural and political sensitivity, utilize and strengthen foreign language skills, and help students explore global career options. Through these programs, GEO facilitates global experiences for over 2,700 NU students and 200 additional foreign incoming students.
The Senior Associate Director for Advising and Programming reports to the Director of Global Experience Office and is part of the GEO Senior Leadership team. The Senior Associate Director leads GEO's two core divisions: 360-Advising and 360-Program Design, aligns their efforts to advance GEO's mission and the University's strategic goals. The Senior Associate Director oversees and ensures quality of GEO's comprehensive advising services for outgoing and incoming students; participates in developing student enrollment strategy and manages enrollment goals; oversees the management of GEO's extensive portfolio of education abroad programs and the development of new programs; ensures all GEO programs' adherence to the University policies and the best practices in experiential education and student health and safety. With Director, works closely with the Colleges to create new program models that best aligns with their current and future academic goals. The Senior Associate Director supervises and develops staff; and works in tandem with the Senior Associate Director for Finance and Operations to ensure coordination of efforts and workflow across GEO's divisions and functions. The Senior Associate Director is expected to travel domestically and internationally, conduct site visits, and present at professional conferences and meetings.
Master's degree in a relevant field.
A minimum of 8 years of experience in education abroad administration, with demonstrated success at progressive responsibilities.
Advanced knowledge of international higher education and the US education abroad field.
Familiarity with international political, social, and cultural issues as they pertain to education abroad, international travel, and international service.
Understanding of NAFSA: Association of International Educators professional ethics and competencies.
Demonstrated leadership and advocacy skills.
Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, make timely decisions and meet goals and deadlines.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders. This includes professionalism and collegiality, excellent judgment, and discretion.
Demonstrated ability to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and supervise a culturally diverse workforce.
The ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality. Must effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities.
Strong organizational, project management, and administrative skills.
Strong, contemporary computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, working knowledge of database management and study abroad CRMs, the ability to learn new software. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred.
Personal experience studying and/or working abroad.
Experience working with faculty is required.
