JOB SUMMARY: Provide technically superior and audio-visually specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as computer presentation system expertise. Typically focuses on hardware. Research and recommend equipment purchases. Build systems. Produce programs using a variety of media. Schedule and track use of equipment and provide regular preventive maintenance. Operate and train others to operate equipment.
Design, build, and install special electronic systems upon request.
Talk with individual(s) requesting system to determine need.
Discuss design alternatives with them to ascertain most appropriate design together, taking into account constraints such as time and resources.
Identify system products needed, costs, and time to assemble/test. Submit timeline and cost summary to requestor for approval.
After approval, order parts, assemble system, install, test, and train users.
Maintain, repair, and control inventory of various electronic media and related equipment.
Be cognizant to recognize maintenance and repair needs and enable communication systems that encourage your being notified of maintenance and repair needs from others.
Discuss with users difficulties encountered with use of equipment to best formulate solutions to completely address the problems.
Develop routine maintenance schedules for more valuable systems as appropriate.
Acquire parts and repair equipment as needed in a timely manner, meeting the needs of users.
Maintain inventory of equipment and media.
Require compliance with a system for checking out and returning equipment.
Operate television, studio, computer and other media production equipment and train others.
Be expertly proficient in the operation of all equipment assigned within the domain of the Media Technical Specialist.
Operate same equipment as requested through the scheduling system.
Provide training to others in the use of equipment as routinely appropriate.
Provide specialized training to others in the use of more sophisticated equipment or systems upon approval by the Director of the Instructional Media Center.
Provide technical advice and training for faculty, staff, and students.
Demonstrate use of equipment achieving faculty's/staff's/student's desired outcomes.
As appropriate, watch as faculty, staff, or student repeats the demonstration achieving the same desired outcomes to confirm their capability.
Provide one-page bulleted instructions for use subsequent to demonstrations for uncommon (to the user) situations.
Be sufficiently proficient with equipment to consider, recommend, and implement uncommon solutions for unusual needs.
Perform video and audio recording production functions including editing, duplicating, and digital photography.
Produce video and audio recordings at the direction of the Director of the Instructional Media Center.
Provide quality editing, duplicating, and photography services in association with all recording activities to standards determined by the Director of the Instructional Media Center.
Insure quality production free of defects both in the media itself and the production process.
Recommend equipment purchases as needed to insure quality production and capability for media editing, duplicating, and photography.
Train specific others in the methods and equipment use for media production as assigned by the Director of the Instructional Media Center.
Troubleshoot audio visual problems.
Work to resolve and remedy problems associated with urgent audio visual needs immediately.
Hastily seek guidance from the Director of the Instructional Media Center when multiple urgent needs exist simultaneously.
Be readily available to attend to urgent situations and attentive to recognize and foresee the circumstances in which urgent situations may arise; endeavor to assuage these circumstances in advance.
