Under general instruction, the Laboratory Manager (LM) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of departmental teaching laboratories in the Communication Program, including Jaguar Student Media at Main Campus and the Univision Media Lab within the Univision Studios. LM requires full mastery of the Mac OS and the ability to manage and update applications, operating systems and configurations on 90 iMacs, Apple laptops and AppleTVs using JAMF administration software and other tools to create a well-organized, efficient, customized student communication and media learning environment. The lab manager works collaboratively with IT on security, authentication, active directory enrollment, networking and JAMF. The laboratory manager will manage the Jaguar Media and Univision Media Labsâ™ laboratory budget and purchasing system under the supervision of the Communication Program.
Updates MAC OS applications, operating systems and configurations on approximately 90 iMacs, Apple laptops and AppleTVs using JAMF administration software.
Administers file-sharing Network Attached Storage communication servers and backups at Main Campus and Univision. Sets and adjusts share points and maintains a hierarchy of access to multiple server partitions for faculty, students, student media fellows and staff, individually setting and changing access privileges as new students enroll and responsibilities change.
Supports instruction by supplying equipment manuals, creating instructional videos and providing individualized help to faculty and students working on journalism laboratory projects or on student media.
Detailed knowledge of software application preferences and production workflows in Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Acrobat, Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign, Premiere Pro and Audition.
Organizes and administers equipment storage, checkout, maintenance and repair, including still and video cameras, lenses, electronic flashes, LED lights, light modifiers, tripods, stands, batteries power cords, microphones, cables, external hard drives, digital professional sound recorders, Chromebooks.
Creates and updates program signage and handouts, including the posting of room schedules and instructions for students and faculty.
Maintains a detailed database inventory of all program assets.
Supervises student workers in the laboratory. Manages their schedules, duties, and tasks.
Maintains an up-to-date inventory of all supplies in the teaching laboratories. Communicates with full-time and adjunct faculty to ensure items are within budget and are ordered in a timely manner.
Orders, maintains, and performs minor repairs on teaching instrumentation and supervises the construction, repair and maintenance of all lab equipment.
Manages the laboratory budget for Jaguar Student Media, including Student Organization accounts.
Prepares and files monthly purchase requisitions and appropriate account balances at the end of the fiscal year.
Accesses the universityâ™s Canopy system to mantain available funds and the various accounts for laboratory operations and communicates this information to the media department head.
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of industry standards in video, audio, still photo and computer hardware and software to inform and carry out purchases for communication program classes and Univision Practicum.
Performs other duties as assigned to include attending and participating in departmental meetings or other meetings pertaining to laboratory matters.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
Five years of related experience in a MacOS laboratory management.
1 year of experience providing instructions on safe laboratory practices in a media and communications instructional laboratory setting.
Evidence of managing a budget.
Two years experience working in an educational environment.
Master's degree in applicable field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Acrobat, Photoshop, Bridge, InDesign, Premiere Pro and Audition.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding. Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
