The Associate Vice President, Advancement provides innovative administrative and strategic leadership to facilitate the achievement of Huron’s fundraising programs and goals. Fostering this mission, the Associate Vice President reports to the Vice President, University Growth and has the responsibility and authority to provide the strategic direction and decision making to promote and assess this mission across their areas of responsibility. Specific areas of responsibility and oversight include major gifts portfolio, campaign management, annual fund, alumni board, alumni engagement strategy, bequests and legacy giving, and stewardship and recognition.
The Associate Vice President is a seasoned leader, communicator and business development professional. Approachable and personable, the Associate Vice President will be responsible for managing high profile and high value relationships external to Huron, and will work directly with the Vice President and President to accomplish institutional fundraising targets and goals.
Focus on the development and support of Huron’s major gift portfolio that align with Huron’s mission and vision of Leadership with Heart.
In consultation with the Vice President, develop and implement an integrated advancement communication, marketing, events and donor relations strategies centered on the engagement of alumni, donors, friends, and potential and existing donors of Huron.
Solidifies high value relationships with alumni, donors, and friends of Huron through attentive and personalized stewardship and recognition. Directs timing and frequency of messaging to alumni and donors.
Works collaboratively with Huron’s Marketing and Communications team to ensure Advancement strategies and programs are designed to enhance the university’s brand, image and reputation.
Identify, qualify, and cultivate relationships with a broad range of stakeholders (alumni, donors, friends of Huron, staff, faculty, etc.) in which there is potential for present or future gifts to Huron.
Plan, design and organize team goals and objectives, guide collaborative and cohesive efforts toward expected outcomes, and evaluate results with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
Provide leadership and supervision to a diverse team of professional staff.
Identify key goals for the team and provide motivation, coaching and support to ensure goals are met, if not surpassed.

Knowledge and understanding of innovative strategies that build relationships and promote ongoing engagement with the University.
Ability to collaborate across the University to promote and contribute to Huron’s success.
Solid understanding and strict adherence to ethical fundraising standards and supporting legislation.
Knowledge of a university environment (academic, research, governance, operations, administration, media) and the relationship with donors.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and shift priorities based on the task at hand.
Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
Ability to encourage innovation and problem solving; ability to lead and manage change.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a focus on business or a related discipline.
Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant and progressively responsible leadership experience in Business Development, Fundraising or Sales.
Experience working with donors to identify and secure 5 and 6 figure gifts to the University.
Demonstrated ability in sales and/or fundraising with a proven track record in cultivating relationships and setting, achieving and surpassing growth targets.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships from external stakeholders and deliver results for mutual benefit of all parties.
Demonstrated supervisory and management experience leading teams and collaboration across teams and external partners.
Demonstrated experience with strategic planning.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize data for decision making.
Demonstrated ability to promote a welcoming environment for alumni, donors, friends of Huron, staff, faculty and community members from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
