Reports to: Managing Director of Evaluation and Data Solutions
The Director of Research has primary responsibility for executing analysis on Chicago Scholars’ key research questions and monitoring progress on agency-wide indicators. The Director will plan and lead requested research projects and support the coordination of a Randomized Control Trial. The Director will also identify and monitor progress on programmatic and operational indicators via reports and dashboards.
Conceptualize, design, plan, and lead requested research projects, framing the research questions and identify appropriate data and methods, with support from the Managing Director of Evaluation and Data Solutions
Support the execution of our planned Randomized Control Trial to create a longitudinal study of program results; liaise with external researchers and funders to support execution
Collect data for Chicago Scholars C4 learning initiative and prepare white papers and presentations of key findings; share and present findings with direct service practitioners and other stakeholders
Coordinate with external researchers for other evaluation and quasi-experimental projects
Maintain files of relevant research and evidence-based models relevant to Chicago Scholars programming and operations
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Identify and recommend key indicators and outcomes for programming and operations
Compute and monitor progress on key metrics and indicators as identified by Program Leadership and COO; maintain change log of methodology and indicator definitions
Customize and improve the Chicago Scholars agency dashboard in cooperation with the rest of the Data Team; design and develop reports and dashboards to support staff in executing their work and decision-making
Perform detailed data analyses to identify and recommend program changes
Translate findings from outcomes, survey data, and stakeholder feedback into actionable insights
Prepare research reports, presentations, and papers that summarize findings of our work for internal and external audiences
Lead periodic data-to-action seminars for staff guiding program improvements based on research, benchmarks, and our results
- Gather, organize, and integrate data from disparate sources, like the National Student Clearinghouse, for program benchmarking and scholar tracking
- Partner with the Manager of Data Systems to update and/or create internal processes to ensure data quality and proper field usage. Identify and resolve issues or gaps related to data quality and field usage in Salesforce, Form Assembly, and Get Feedback
- Participate in the development of grant proposals, annual reports, and other ad hoc reports requested for various constituencies
- Represent Chicago Scholars in the broader local educational research community
Attend and support mandatory all staff events including the UnTied Gala, College Choice Celebration, New Student Orientation, Leadership Summit, the Onsite College Admissions Forum, New Student Interview Nights, and our Quarterly Staff Retreats
• Education: Undergraduate degree in education, social sciences, data analysis, or similar field. Masters degree preferred.
• Experience: 3-5 years experience in research, program evaluation, and analysis. Nonprofit, academic, or education experience preferred.
Project Management: Ability to manage projects, organize and compile complex tasks, and prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines and objectives.
Adaptability: Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing needs and priorities
Problem Solving and Critical Thinking: Ability to break down tasks into manageable sections to make informed decisions to tackle a larger problem. Perceive and resolve a gap between a present situation and a desired goal.
