The SCORE Association is seeking a Communications Specialist to support the public relations and content writing activities of SCORE in our efforts to improve, increase, and promote SCORE services and brand.
The Communications Specialist will provide support in the following areas: press release creation and distribution, blog content oversight, blog/article writing for SCORE spokespeople, media pitching and response, research for speeches, annual reports and other communications, email review and editing. The ideal candidate possesses strong writing, communication, and organizational skills as well as a sharp eye for accuracy, syntax, grammar and aesthetics. S/he should also be highly organized and passionate about increasing positive awareness of SCORE. The ideal candidate also has experience with public relations, content writing and communications.
We’re looking for a self-starter, proactive problem solver and detail-oriented team player. S/he should be committed to providing superior service, poised under fast-paced pressure and have a relentlessly positive, flexible, 'whatever it takes' attitude.
Optimize, distribute and report metrics for press releases
Manage Media Mentor pool of experts in response to inbound media requests and media forum inquiries
Provide research, writing, editing and execution of SCORE Annual Report and Megaphone of Main Street reports
Write blogs and articles on behalf of SCORE spokespeople
Support management of blog content – review blog submissions and post to SCORE website as needed
Wrote brand and campaign copy for various SCORE initiatives
Research and provide background for executive speeches
Assist with the preparation and editing of marketing materials including presentations, brochures, data, images, and reports
Proof content from partners and volunteers as needed
Review and edit marketing/communications materials including email newsletters for grammatical errors and brand compliance
Track, measure and analyze public relations data
Quality assure own work to ensure flawless execution and delivery
Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and reducing execution complexity
Strong copywriting and editing skills
Good, creative intuition when it comes to messaging and designs that represent our brand and resonate with our audience
MS Office proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)
Self-starter with a drive to learn and the ability to work independently or collaboratively and under deadline pressure
Ability to apply critical thinking and complete tasks on time with strong attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
Graphic design editing experience or familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.); video and/or digital media/software a plus
Basic understanding of web language HTML
