The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) is recruiting for a Bioinformatics Analyst II . The selected candidate will contribute to -omics research projects and scientific analysis of the data generated by those projects using a variety of database and software applications. The candidate we are seeking will have previous experience analyzing -omics-related data sets (transcriptomics, metagenomics, comparartive genomics, etc.). he qualified candidate will have demonstrated organizational skills and project management skills.

Follow established protocols for running transcriptomics analyses, microbiome-related analyses, and other -omics analyses as needed.
Operate in a Linux environment to run bioinformatics tools and access/store data.
Engage in limited scripting (e.g. shell, Perl, Python) to perform basic tasks.
Interact with collaborators and clients to understand the needs of projects and report results of analyses.
Present work at group meetings as well as occasional larger scientific meetings.
Travel to conferences/meetings/workshops as required for specific projects and/or training opportunities.
Balance and prioritize work assignments so as to make progress on multiple tasks/projects at the same time.
Participate in community outreach and training.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related field, i.e., Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or Bioinformatics. Masters or Ph.D preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years omics-related analysis experience. Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
Preferred Experience: Work experience using a Linux/Unix command-line environment, knowledge of Python or Perl scripting for routine tasks such as parsing and file formatting.
