Girls on the Run-Chicago (GOTRC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to inspire 3rd-8th grade girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. In the past 20 years, thousands of individuals throughout Chicagoland have volunteered their time and dedicated their hearts to empower more than 85,000 girls with the confidence and character they need to become strong, healthy women. This year, 2,700 coaches will mentor 11,000 girls at 450 sites and schools. More than just a running program, GOTRC uses a cutting-edge curriculum that addresses the unique developmental stages of 8-14 year olds. The fun, innovative program combines training for a 5K with interactive lessons that encourage positive physical and social-emotional health.
Reports to: Director of Communications
Status: Full-time, non-exempt
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Visual Content Coordinator is responsible for the design and implementation of print and digital strategies and campaigns to help drive program participation, volunteer recruitment, fundraising, and brand awareness. The skills needed for this position include creativity, flexibility, attention to detail, project management, and a strong passion for the organization and our mission.
Working with, and under guidance from the Director of Communications, the Visual Content Coordinator is responsible for the following areas:
Deliver on-time, on-budget, on-brand, high-quality graphic design for print and digital across all departments within the organization, including programming, fundraising, community engagement, and merchandise.
Design multi-channel campaigns, creating a consistent look and feel across a variety of mediums including print collateral, social media, email, and web.
Think creatively to develop concepts, graphics and visual images to communicate an impactful story that moves the intended audience to take action.
Successfully translate brand guidelines into a wide range of deliverables such as digital and print newsletters, logo creation, marketing collateral, email marketing, special event materials, cause marketing campaigns, and fund development materials.
Work in collaboration with the Director of Communications and other department staff on the collection, organization and management of content including stories, testimonials, photos and videos from the field for use on digital properties and in marketing and fundraising campaigns.
Proven ability to work in fast paced environment with tight deadlines
Assist with design/layout and navigation of the site
Perform frequent edits, maintenance and updates as needed
Maintain and organize photo archives
Marketing and Social Media:
Plan and create social media content that is balanced, branded, and engaging across multiple platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the GOTRC blog and in concordance with the annual social media strategy
Perform research needed to create visuals and copy that help the organization to stay current and relevant in the areas of youth development and girl empowerment
Track and report on social media engagement statistics and make recommendations as needed based on performance
Create and manage monthly e-newsletter
Work with vendor to review options for 5K merchandise, present recommendation, create designs and provide review of any proofs needed for production
Serve as event-day contact for announcers, videographers, and photographers and obtain photos as needed for social media
Assist with GOTRC office tasks as needed
Additional duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or Graphic Design or related field with a minimum of three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong proficiency in the Adobe Create Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
Graphic design skills with a strong portfolio (provide link)
Experience with typography, layout, photo selection, color balance, core design principals and branding
Exceptional attention to detail and project management skills
Highly organized with the ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time and deliver within deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a collaborative environment on creative design projects
Knowledge of social media and best practices for use
Personal passion for the mission of GOTRC
Video production and editing skills a plus, but not required
Applicant must be willing to undergo a comprehensive background check
This position reports to the Director of Communications and is full time. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required. Vacation blackout periods due to program and event schedule may apply.
