Departmental Overview The mission of The Department of Residential Life is to facilitate residential student transitions into the intellectual and social communities of the University of California, Berkeley, and to promote personal well-being and respect for the community needs of all residents. Responsibilities OVERVIEW: This position requires analytical reviews of campus and professional policies and practices in the service of reaching the Department's Mission. This position is responsible for the development of assessment processes that gather evaluation and metric data from current and projected programs and services in support of Department and Cluster goals. Responsibilities include assisting in program planning, and interpreting, monitoring and analyzing information regarding department practices and procedures while providing consultative services regarding general management to department administrators. Responsibilities also include working closely with Associate Directors for Residential Life and/or UVA to provide high level strategic program planning, consultation, and oversight for Academic initiatives for residents.
Prepares assessment methods and survey tools to perform systematic and ad hoc analytical studies on a wide variety of services, programs and issues which are complex in nature. In collaboration with Campus Labs/Baseline experts on survey design, manages data gathering for assessment projects for all areas of the department.
Provides strategic advisement to leadership team. Expertise in the utilization of data to support informed decision making. Manage MOUs, policies, and process/policy components. Makes high level contacts of a sensitive nature, internally and externally requiring discretion and diplomacy in order to negotiate with or persuade officials to adopt proposed solutions (e.g., the US Census Bureau, campus faculty and graduate student research requests, etc.)
Supervise Residential Academic Support Specialist (1.0 FTE) and provide strategic oversight of the academic success program (i.e.Tutoring, and campus partnerships)
Responsible for operational oversight of the Resident Faculty Program.
Researches and drafts complex proposals, assessment/metric reports, briefings, and executive summaries on trends and best practices in the field of Student Development, especially related to residential living. Occasional reports for supporting Dean of Students
Serve on the Senior Staff of Residential Life and other committees and workgroups as designated by the Director of Residential Life
Establishes and maintains contacts internally and with external constituents for the collection and exchange of data. Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts (e.g., Divisional colleagues and the Office of Planning & Analysis).
2 years of experience working with departmental/institutional assessments in a higher education setting
Strong communication, interpersonal, and consulting skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff; both verbally and in writing.
5-7 years of professional experience working in a higher education work setting
Strong political acumen to work with faculty, administrators and students
Strong knowledge and foundation of assessment on a higher education campus setting
