The Director of Alumni & Student Engagement is a senior role responsible for developing a strategy and leading philanthropic and alumni engagement efforts across various sources. The Director will focus heavily on student and young alumni populations to educate these groups on the importance of remaining engaged with and philanthropically supporting Seton Hall. The position will help teach current students and young alumni about the importance of giving, instilling habitual support as a responsibility. The Director will create new engagement opportunities and promote recurring giving. This position works closely with the Director of Philanthropic Engagement to build the overall alumni giving rate. The Director also works closely with the Director of Leadership Gifts, to build the young alumni Bayley Society, the Consecutive Year Society and the 1856 Student Giving Society. The person will personally solicit upper level annual gift donors with special attention paid to building a young alumni leadership giving program. The Director provides direction in designing, implementing, and evaluating alumni engagement initiatives whose purpose is to build a long-term base of support for the University. This leadership role will be active and collaborative across central and school-based teams to increase Seton Hall's annual base of engaged alumni and donors.
The Director will be involved in all aspects of Alumni Engagement, including philanthropy and annual giving, communication, digital, experiential, leadership giving and volunteer engagement by working collaboratively in a fully integrated engagement team. The Director will manage two Associate Directors of Alumni Engagement who oversee the student calling program, Student Alumni Association, Young Alumni Club and all student and young alumni engagement activities. Special attention on creating new engagement opportunities, such as texting, Venmo and Brick Campaigns to engage young alumni and students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Create initiatives with a focus on increasing alumni and student engagement and philanthropy. Build upon existing engagement activities, and create new opportunities for alumni and students to engage with Seton Hall. Assist in the creation of engagement activities and fundraising appeals through direct mail, phonathon, alumni and student clubs, events, digital communications, volunteerism, social media, webpages, crowdfunding and University publications by working collaboratively with the communication and digital engagement team, with a focus on appeals for young alumni and students. Build the young alumni participation rate by monitoring and tracking day-to-day progress and building the base of annual supporters. Provide diverse opportunities for alumni to make philanthropic investments that are meaningful to the donor and support the institution’s mission and strategic goals. Stay current on alumni engagement trends and innovations in higher education through reading and professional development activities and incorporate this knowledge into Seton Hall's plans.
Work collaboratively with University Advancement and campus partners, and as an integrated member of the Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy team. Participate in all aspects of alumni engagement, including philanthropy, communication, digital, experiential, leadership giving and volunteerism. Build mutually beneficial relationships that inspire loyalty and financial support, strengthen the institutions reputation and involve alumni in meaningful activities to advance the institutions mission. Serve as an active liaison to the Alumni Board.
Focus on identification and activation of new prospective donors; maintain an active schedule of contacts, activities and solicitations with individuals capable of making leadership annual gifts. The focus of these gifts will be to build the Young Alumni Bayley Society, 1856 Society and Consecutive Gift Society. Generate a new pipeline of donors through solicitations of assigned constituent groups such as schools & colleges, student groups and Seton Hall University programs. Identify and help build a pipeline of students and young alumni donors for both Leadership Annual Giving officers and Development, while also building a prospect list.
Supervise two Associate Director of Alumni Engagement positions. Motivate staff, set aggressive but attainable goals and lead the team to hit fundraising and engagement goals. Oversee the positions that manage the Seton Hall Phonathon program, Student Alumni Association, Senior Class Gift program and Young Alumni Club.
BA plus 3-5 years post BA experience, ideally in alumni engagement field.
MA preferred, experience as supervisor.
