Phoenix Country Day School (PCDS) is seeking a Middle School Counselor for the 2019-2020 school year. The counselor will provide social and emotional support to students in grades 5 and 6 and serve the following roles:
Teach sections of You and Others (YO) - a social and emotional learning class, with a focus on topics pertaining to friendship, mindfulness, stress management, digital citizenship, identity, substance abuse, and human sexuality
Provide short-term counseling support to students in need, including social coaching and peer mediation
Consult with parents regarding social, emotional, and behavioral interventions
Work closely with faculty to ensure student adaptation to the academic and social challenges of middle school
Collaborate with outside providers to ensure student mental health support
Interpret psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations, distilling appropriate accommodations for teachers
Work closely with middle school administration to address crisis situations
The successful candidate will have a passion for working in an independent school environment and a drive to further their skills in supporting the mental health of all students.
A master’s degree, or equivalent training experience, is required.
