Wake Technical Community College is seeking to expand our pool of adjunct faculty to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in the College and Career Readiness Division (CCR). Openings for these positions may not exist at the present time; however upon review of your qualifications, you may be contacted directly by the department on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions):

*Completes a needs assessment with students
*Creates and executes daily lesson plans based on the ESL curriculum, current research based ESL methodologies and student needs to provide interactive, contextualized instruction in preparing students to transition to college and careers
*Performs routine administrative functions of the classroom including enforcing student attendance policy, ensuring accurate attendance documentation, obtaining goal documentation, etc.
Implements technology to enhance instruction
Participates in scheduled Professional Development and staff meetings
Participates in student retention activities, including contacting students through email and phone calls
Works with Instructional Program Specialists and College & Career Readiness Counselor to identify and assist eligible students who are transitioning into college and careers
Assists with student registration, as needed
Adheres to all policies of the site at which the ESL classes are held, unless in direct conflict with College policies
Arrives to class on time with a quality lesson plan prepared to teach for the duration of the contracted class time
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Able to relate and communicate well with individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups with respect and sensitivity
Excellent oral, written and listening skills
Self-directed, organized, task and detail oriented and flexible
Able to demonstrate a variety of instructional techniques and methods
Demonstrates high level of English proficiency
Creates and executes quality interactive contextualized daily lesson plans based on the ESL curriculum, tailored to student needs and current ESL methodologies
Working knowledge of computers, especially use of the internet and Microsoft Office
Requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
Requires at least 6 months of ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching experience in a classroom OR 3 months adult teaching experience in a classroom with an ESL certificate from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
Must be able to develop and teach original lesson plans for a classroom setting that incorporate contextualized instruction or real-life/authentic materials
Must have high level of English proficiency
Requires digital literacy, especially in the use of the internet, technology as a teaching tool, and Microsoft Office
Must be able to incorporate technology such as PowerPoint, LCD projectors, IPads, tablets, and/or internet based activities into the classroom
Prefer experience in ESL for the workplace and ESL distance education, including but not limited to career pathways, career development, and advising
