Performance Profile The Director of Student Life reports directly to the Head of School and is responsible for fostering an atmosphere conducive to learning. The Director of Student Life will oversee all issues pertaining to the well-being of students during their attendance at the school and their development as leaders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Student Life will:
Work with the Head of School and Principal to develop and manage academic and social policies, protocols, and practices that serve to support student development, learning, health, and safety.
Collaborate with the Principal and Department Heads to provide academic support, student counseling, and testing.
Promote high standards and expectations for student leadership, personal integrity, and community responsibility.
Assist with the maintenance of records regarding academic performance.
Oversee student conduct and maintain student discipline.
Implement, oversee and supervise advising, wellness, and counseling systems.
Address social and academic infractions; maintain correspondence related to grades and conduct with parents and other concerned parties.
Counsel students when necessary, working closely with the Principal.
Ensure the health and safety of students on campus.
Assist in preparing and maintaining the school’s master calendar.
Develop and implement the Student Handbook.
Keep the Head of School and Principal informed regarding student issues and campus life.
Oversee the development of our Outdoor Education curriculum.
Coordinate a parent education series that aligns with student growth and development.
Support and assist the Communications Office with stewardship of social media outreach.
Support an integrated online presence on social media platforms by maintaining social media surveillance and response in real time when possible.
Expected to use personal cell phone device to execute necessary social media applications to highlight student life.
Capture day-to-day activities and events around campus through photography and videography to highlight student life.
Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Head of School
Common Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred in counseling or psychology
5+ years of experience in education and proven success as part of an administrative team
Outstanding organizational skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Dedicated to student advocacy
Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver
Proven track record as an independent and goal-oriented team member
Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in: student- leadership development, social-emotional learning, responsive classroom, experiential education, outdoor education or outdoor recreation, environmental sustainability practices, and proficiency with social media.
