Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for a Senior Lead Environmental Specialist to work with the Environmental Planning Division at the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) in Baltimore, MD. The selected candidate will conduct highway traffic noise analyses and associated work activities as part of the environmental review of MDOT SHA projects. The selected person will support all aspects of MDOT SHA highway traffic noise analyses and noise abatement design development, which includes necessary experience with the latest FHWA TNM (version 2.5) noise prediction program.
Required qualifications for this position include: a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus 6 years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management, three years of which must have included responsibility managing environmental projects. Assignment to some locations may require three years of supervising environmental professional and technical staff. Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of required experience.
Preferred skills include: 3 years of experience of analysis of highway noise impacts; knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and regulations, such as the National Environmental Policy Act and 23 CFR 772 which are FHWA Procedures for abatement of highway noise and construction noise; experience with GIS and CADD related to the conduct of highway noise analyses; the ability to interpret maps, plans, and specifications.
