This posting is for a Licensed Practical Nurse to serve as a Clinical Research Coordinator. Responsibilities will be to assist faculty members with the ongoing collection and management of clinical subjects, laboratory samples, and data for Department of Dermatology Basic and Translational Research. The selected candidate will oversee all aspects of the Clinical day-to-day study activities as relates to tissue procurement in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collection of human tissue specimens including detailed labeling, punch biopsies, sutures, dressing applications and suture removal.
Responsible for biopsy clinic room preparation including kit assembly and instrument sterilization.
Record all procedures and maintain all case report forms and subject records.
Responsible for strict adherence to multiple study protocols including all required treatments, recruitment and scheduling of subject, reviewing all inclusion/exclusion criteria. Daily review of Excel spread sheets for new studies, communication and coordination with Basic Science Labs in Medical Science Buildings.
Responsible for study volunteers’ education on specifics of each study they are participating in, assuring there are no protocol deviations or violations. Detailed review of consent information and review of health status with each subject prior to study enrollment. Educate subject on wound care.
Correctly label all specimens and deliver tissue/paperwork to appropriate area(s) in lab. Record delivery.
Coordinate Human Subject Incentive Payment (HSIP) vouchers, including applying for approval through HSIP Office, recording and documenting any distributed vouchers.
Willing to be trained to measure transepidermal water loss and water content in the skin.
Light Treatments and Topical Treatments
As indicated by the study, perform proper treatments, using multiple UVB/UVA lights, applying topical cream/lotion, follow with occlusive dressings before biopsies. Attention to detail in these applications and light treatments is critical.
Meter all lights with radiometer/photometer before use. Maintain proper working order of all equipment used.
Data Management/Project Management
Manage all Subject Case Report Forms and maintain all subject records/CRFs. Ensure that all policies are accurate, consistently applied, and thoroughly documented.
Identify, record and report all Adverse Events/SAE’s to IRB when necessary.
Monitor all research documents to assure correct data entry and compliance with department quality assurance program protocols, adherence to good clinical practice guidelines, IRB regulations, FDA regulations and all other federal, local, and University guidelines.
Prepare update on studies for biweekly Translational Dermatology Forums with Research Faculty/Staff. Communicate tissue collection progress to various departmental labs.
Order all supplies required to perform necessary research and tissue procurement. Scrub, package, and label all instruments for sterilization.
Maintain licensure and certifications, as applicable.
This position may also work on research projects in conjunction with the Program for Clinical Research in Dermatology.
As the work load of this position will vary in accordance with the number and demands of the research studies conducted by the department, additional duties not listed here may be assigned.
Must have exceptional communication skills and the ability to work with a very diverse subject population.
Intellectually curious and eager to learn new things and acquire new skills.
The ability to work independently and meticulous attention to detail are also required.
Due to the nature of research some evening hours may be required, so schedule flexibility is necessary.
Candidate must be extremely dependable and reliable.
Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel, required.
Candidate must also be willing and have the aptitude to learn new electronic systems as the need arises.
