RESEARCH ANALYST, DEVELOPMENT AND ALUMNI RELATIONS JOB SCOPE The Prospect Research department at Boston University is responsible for identifying new principal gift and leadership gift prospects for the Campaign. It also prepares briefing materials for development visits by the President, Deans and Executive Vice Presidents, and for development-related events. It is responsible for maintaining the data integrity of capacity ratings, inclination codes, and prospect manager assignments, and for creating and distributing a daily report of news events on its leading prospects. The Assistant Director of Proactive Research is a member of the research group, which provides in-depth research services and products to Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) staff in support of the Universitys fundraising and alumni relations goals. The position reports directly to the Director of Research and Prospect Management, and its major responsibilities are to manage the identification of new principal and major gift campaign prospects and provide in-depth analyses of prospect data to aid in DAR management decision-making. When necessary, the Assistant Director is also expected to do reactive prospect research in support of DAR staff. The Assistant Director will plan and supervise the domestic prospecting activities undertaken by the Research department and will conduct and/or direct all international prospecting him/herself. In addition, the Assistant Director will, as much as possible, prepare and/or review and edit the proactive Informal Rating documents for the Global Team and for the School and Regional development officers, as well as all the work done by the researchers on his/her Rotation.
Candidates require a Bachelors degree and three to five years of related experience. Additionally, written communications, analytical skills, collaboration, and project management skills are required. Strong computer, organizational and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to prioritize the workload. The selected candidate must be able to handle confidential material responsibly and interact professionally with a wide spectrum of individuals.
