St. Lawrence University invites applications for a University Librarian position. The University Librarian is the academic, administrative, and financial officer of the Libraries and oversees all operations and services. The University Librarian reports directly to the Vice President of University and Dean of Academic Affairs. S/he oversees librarians and works collaboratively with IT leadership and the Director of Research and Digital initiatives to provide leadership and vision within the Libraries and Information Technology division and to foster integration between areas where such integration enhances services. In addition, s/he serves on the Dean’s Staff, a consultative body chaired by the Vice President of the University and Dean of Academic Affairs.
Articulates a clear vision of the SLU Libraries’ role in the teaching, learning, and research experience of St. Lawrence University students as well as the experience of the larger community
Works collaboratively with faculty and administration to ensure that the vision of the library serves the mission of the University and engages the library faculty and staff in the ongoing refinement of this vision via a system of participatory management
Works with the library faculty and staff to develop, administer, and implement strategic planning initiatives, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic plans and goals.
Contributes to the University and the library profession through scholarship and professional service
Works with other leaders in LIT to ensure that integration between the areas within the division is optimal.
Develops and manages the library budget to support and enhance library collections, services and staff.
Raises funds to support the Libraries, including external grants and philanthropy
Oversees and manages space planning of library facilities and collections; ensures that this supports the planning needs of the University community.
Contributes to building a culturally diverse educational environment though specific library initiatives, hiring, and management practices
Participates in the library profession and maintains useful, collaborative relationships with colleagues, vendors, and resource sharing consortia.
Coordinates all library personnel matters and encourages collegiality, engagement, and professional development of the library faculty and staff.
Works with the community to articulate the role of the SLU Libraries as a cultural resource for Northern New York
Develops and implements an assessment plan for the libraries.
Analyzes and evaluates library services in order to prepare statistical and written reports in support of University, professional, and accreditation initiatives.

MLS/MLIS (or equivalent) degree from an ALA-accredited program
Minimum of six years of professional experience in an academic library with evidence of relevant, progressively responsible library management experience
Experience as a director of an academic library or in leading a significant unit of an academic library
The ability to communicate a shared vision for the library
Demonstrated record of a collaborative leadership style
Significant experience with library budgets, strategic planning, and policy development
Experience leading efforts to integrate technology in support of teaching, learning, and scholarship
Demonstrated awareness of emerging trends in academic libraries
Demonstrated commitment to public service, inclusion, diversity, and community engagement
Demonstrated success in obtaining external funds from gifts and grants
Experience working with consortia and other resource sharing groups.
A record of significant professional and scholarly achievement
