The Department of Communication at Eastern Kentucky University seeks a faculty member to teach in the new Broadcasting and Electronic Media concentration in Multimedia Journalism and serve as adviser to the independent, student-operated Eastern Progress (EP) Media Network beginning fall semester 2019.
The full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment includes teaching courses such as Information Gathering, Introduction to Multimedia Writing, Multimedia Newswriting, Storytelling and Feature Writing, Multimedia Field Production, Photography, Practicum, and Co-op.
The position includes responsibility for advising the Eastern Progress (EP) Media Network, which includes a weekly newspaper, video news, podcasts, website, advertising sales, media promotions, and social media.
The successful applicant will perform other duties expected of full-time faculty, including maintaining scheduled office hours; advising students; developing and revising curriculum; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in major, department, and college meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned.
Additional duties specific to the adviser/Multimedia Journalism faculty role will include serving as an adviser with the student chapter of Society of Professional Journalists along with representing the EP Media Network in state and national associations. Responsibilities include providing overall leadership for the EP Media Network and articulating and implementing a plan for student media program development.
In addition to teaching, faculty members on the tenure-track are required to engage in continuing scholarly/creative activities and to perform service and provide leadership at the department/college/university and in the community and/or profession.
(1) Candidates must have an M.A., M.F.A or Ph.D. in journalism with concentration or emphasis in multimedia/integrated/interactive journalism.
