The Assistant Librarian â“ Research and Instruction is responsible for providing research, teaching, and learning support. This includes information literacy instruction, outreach, collection development, and research assistance.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides research assistance through individual research consultations, as wells as providing reference and directional assistance to library users, in-person, by telephone, and online reference methods (e.g., LibAnswers, Web Conferencing, etc.).
Provides library instruction, including one-to-one, classroom and online formats. Collaborates in the design, teaching and assessment of instructional materials as well as the creation of online education resources.
Creates and maintains online guides and other research tools (e.g., LibGuides, Web Tutorials, etc.).
Works with faculty in designated subject specialty areas to provide library curricular, research and instructional support in a variety of formats.
Maintains a working knowledge of the libraryâ™s collections, databases, and other resources; contributes to the libraryâ™s collection development efforts and assumes collection development responsibilities for assigned subject areas.
Engages and collaborates with faculty, staff, and students of the Texas A&M University-Commerce community.
Maintains awareness of current technologies, trends and developments in librarianship through study of professional literature and participation in professional development.
Collaborates with other library colleagues and throughout the university to develop and promote library services that support student success, recruitment, and retention.
Librarians are expected to play an active role in planning and assessing library services, and to take responsibility for their professional development and activities in pursuit of promotion and continuing appointment.
Education: Masterâ™s degree in library science and/or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, time, and project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Ability to: Work independently and collaboratively, as a leader and team member, with library colleagues. Ability to travel as needed. Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
Physical Requirements: Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Experience or demonstrated knowledge in the provision of reference services to college or university students, in person and online.
Experience or coursework in STEM or Business related fields.
Flexibility and the ability to work positively in a fast-paced, changing environment while collaborating with diverse colleagues, faculty, students, and the community.
Familiarity with Springshare platform (e.g. LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibWizard, etc.).
Familiarity with video/video editing tools (Camtasia, Adobe Premier, etc.)
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
Any Research and Instruction Librarian may be required to coordinate specific tasks of the department, and may be required to supervise other staff members.
