The library has three departments comprised of 19 faculty and 30 staff members. The Content Organization and Management (COM) department selects, acquires, organizes and manages intellectual content to support the learning, teaching, and scholarship activities of the WCU community. COM includes 5 librarians and 10 support staff members and is responsible for a collection budget of approximately $1.7 million. The collection includes approximately 500,000 print and 900,000 e-books and provides access to more than 100,000 journals; the library has 11 digital collections. The library provides support across the university for open access, data management, and work in the digital humanities. Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications. This is a twelve-month, tenure-track assistant professor position with a generous 24 days of vacation leave annually.
This position will provide leadership and professional expertise in library resource sharing and electronic resource access and discovery. The incumbent will proactively identify user pain points in the discovery and delivery of library resources and collaborate across library units to find solutions to these problems. The position will lead the collection and analysis of usage data to support e-resource collection assessment and process improvement.
The Discovery and Resource Sharing Librarian has responsibility for the overall, strategic direction of electronic resource management in the library and directs the day-to-day operations among the unit staff. The position coordinates the activation, customization, and maintenance of a wide range of licensed electronic resources such as databases, journals, and books. They will oversee all resource sharing activities, including managing ILL systems and service quality. They will stay abreast of emerging trends and standards in e-resource discovery and sharing and establish best practices.
Other responsibilities include supervising two full-time staff members; administration of e-resource management tools (e.g. EZProxy, Full Text Finder, Summon, etc.); oversight of resource sharing systems (ILLiad/Tipasa) and ILL request fulfillment; and maintaining the integrity of e-resource knowledge bases. The successful candidate will be professionally engaged, forward-thinking, collaborative, and able to initiate and complete projects in a timely and independent manner.
Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent; knowledge of e-resource management concepts; strong attention to detail; strong customer service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; and potential to meet the library’s requirement for scholarship and service.
Strong troubleshooting skills, particularly working in interconnected technical systems; experience with data collection and analysis; knowledge of/experience with resource sharing standards, processes, and systems; experience managing e-resources in an academic library; experience with library discovery platforms; experience managing resources in a knowledge base; experience with electronic resource management systems; experience working with proxy servers; experience working with publishers and vendors; and supervisory experience.
