The Research Study Assistant performs biomedical &/or social-behavioral research by administering tests &/or questionnaires following protocols. This role collects, compiles, tabulates &/or processes responses; gathers information. This role assists in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports. This position completes all activities by strictly following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy & procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), & the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH).
Recruits study participants via phone calls, in person and online recruitment methods. This may include working with orthopedic clinic and pain management clinic to recruit participants in person.
Reviews & obtains informed consent.
Schedules study visits with participants as well as NMH radiology and other groups we work with at NM.
Collects data including vital signs, ECGs and lab draws.
Prints lab reports from EPIC.
Consults with coordinators & physicians/NP to determine pretreatment & eligibility requirements of protocol from completion to registration of participants.
Facilitates communication with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.
Completes some study visits and or procedures as needed per coordinator.
Completes tasks assigned by marketing manager as related to recruitment.
Handles processing of labs from multiple study subjects. Will ship samples as needed per protocol as well.
Maintains detailed records of recruitment outcomes, which may include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing basic charts & graphs.
Performs scientific literature searches in support of research.
Completes portions of grant applications &/or documents associated with current local, state, & federal regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.
Updates recruitment databases (REDCap) daily, making sure to keep records current and accurate.
Creates recruitment material as needed per marketing manager’s discretion.
Manage and edit REDCap database for new studies.
Submits IRB materials as needed per study coordinator’s discretion.
May process reimbursements for travel expenses.
Monitors & distribute petty cash.
Coordinates fund distribution among multiple sponsors and clinical sites.
May train other research staff on recruitment.
Other duties as assigned or required
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Must complete Northwestern's IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Good communication/interpersonal skills.
Ability to make recruitment phone calls.
Basic knowledge of clinical research.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
Previous clinical research experience involving direct interaction with participants.
Experience processing labs.
Current IATA certification.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Experienced REDCap user.
Skill with databases and data management.
Experience taking vital signs, ECGs and height and weight measurements.
