Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Public Relations Assistant (PRA) for the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT). This position reports to the Associate Director of CAIT and works with broadly defined objectives. The PRA assists in executing an integrated communication, outreach, and marketing plans with the purpose of effectively advancing the mission of CAIT and its programs, in particular the Regional University Transportation Center (UTC) Consortium Led by Rutgers CAIT.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Coordinates, processes, and distributes routine informational brochures, mailings, and press releases, and assists with the implementation of marketing plans/publicity initiatives.
Writes, edits, and proofreads standard copy; coordinates and monitors in-house and/or vendor production schedules.
Assists with the writing, design, and production of non-routine promotional material.
Coordinates and leads volunteers at promotions, press conferences, and similar events, and assists with implementing communication and marketing initiatives.
Provides general public relations research and summaries for reports and presentations, and assists in conducting surveys.
Makes decisions or choices following standard practices and procedures.
Performs professional work requiring general knowledge and the basic application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of public relations and marketing, and of copy editing, proofreading, and print production practices.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communication, journalism, English, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates general knowledge, skill, and understanding of public relations, marketing, event execution, proofreading, writing, copy editing, print production, promotional advertising, organization, and/or coordination.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Good communication skills and computer literacy to include industry standard software
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with journalists, campus leaders, faculty, administrators and vendors
Ability to work autonomously in the prescribed duties, as well as cooperatively with the Center's faculty and staff, is tantamount to the success of this position
Extremely detail oriented, dedicated, and self-motivated
Excellent editing, writing, and project management skills
Ability in written and oral communications, including researching, writing, editing, proofreading, and presenting is preferred.
Software skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat required.
Proficiency in at least one layout program
Familiarity/working knowledge of graphic support applications is beneficial.
