The Virginia Small Business Development Centers (VSBDC) Network – a part of the George Mason University, Mason Enterprise Center – is looking for a highly detail – oriented individual with strong financial and administrative skills, who is professionally mature, highly motivated, and able to work effectively with internal and external partners. The incumbent will have financial responsibilities (i.e., grant – related to budgets, invoices, billings, payments, reimbursements and contracts); and must possess the intellectual ability to support and contribute to various projects. This is a 20 – hour per week, non – benefitted position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor budgets and formulate budgets for new grant applications and continued grants;
Prepare grant – related billing backup documentation for reimbursements;
Process project – related purchase orders, expenses and invoices in a timely and accurate manner; reviewing to verify their validity and ensure that account codes are accurately used;
Complete regular reconciliation, and prepare adjustment and correction of grant – related entries;
Communicate with the Office of Sponsored Programs, Fiscal Services, etc. to resolve invoice and payment queries, and to follow up on aged goods received not invoiced issues;
Establish a good understanding of sponsored program processes and funder requirements to be able to contribute to the accuracy of project accounting and the compliance with university accounting policies and funder requirements;
Provide administrative support ensuring that files and records are kept up – to -date, accurate, and in accordance with financial regulations and good practices;
Produce grant programmatic and fiscal reports as needed; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, and/or strong accounting background and grant experience;
Proficiency in interpersonal, oral and written communications; and interactive and listening skills;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel, and financial systems/databases
Ability to interact with diverse groups of faculty, staff, and external grant funders;
Ability to respond and work effectively and efficiently in a multitasking environment with deadlines is essential;
Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
Ability to maintain discretion with confidential material; and
Strong attention to detail skills in budgeting.
