CAEL (The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning) is a non-profit, membership organization. We are looking to hire an experienced Member Engagement and Development Director to increase membership engagement, renewal, recruitment and overall member growth; establish and implement new and enhanced member benefits; and increase CAEL’s membership value. The right candidate will implement innovative strategies for increasing member engagement and develop, manage and execute strategies to increase retention and improve the overall member experience.
This full-time position offers remote work options and would be expected to travel as needed to CAEL conferences/events (approx. 20%).
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Drive, build and implement new strategic initiatives, including membership benefit development to advance and increase member engagement.
Develop and implement an effective execution of membership renewal and retention strategies.
Execute membership recruitment strategies to grow the number of members through an increase in member acquisition.
Develop and execute a member welcome and on-boarding program.
Create opportunities to learn from members, i.e. surveys, focus groups and committees, to support improving a member focused value proposition.
Create and implement new and enhanced “members only” services, benefits and opportunities.
Enhance and deliver member professional development courses, workshops and offerings.
Develop and execute a membership content strategy, including creating, participating and establishing new and enhanced member content/materials/publications/assets and services.
Develop and execute effective marketing tactics and work closely with CAEL marketing team to create and promote new and enhanced member materials, both digital and non-digital assets.
Utilize and manage the CAEL membership online community platform and membership section of the website to support recruitment and retention of members, including recruit and build member advocates for online community platform.
Create, execute and manage opportunities for members to volunteer on various committees.
Effectively collaborate within and across departments to impact membership value and achieve individual, departmental and organizational metrics goals.
Continually monitor and assess member programs, benefits and services for improvement and create, analyze and report data on strategic membership goals, programs and services.
Leverage data, analysis and surveys to inform strategy development.
Respond to member, volunteer and public inquiries.
Support CAEL’s strategic partnership work to increase member/partner engagement.
Perform additional duties and assignments as required.
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Education, Marketing, Communication or related field preferred.
10 years related experience in membership development, engagement, renewal and recruitment, including a proven track record in implementing, optimizing and growing membership services and programs.
Extensive experience with management database systems and maximizing online community platforms to support recruitment and retention of members.
Experience with sales and marketing to membership groups.
Experience working with higher education institutions, universities, colleges and corporations/employers.
Skills & Knowledge:
Knowledge of membership database management/CRM. Experience working with membership platforms, including CVent and iMIS platforms.
Knowledge of membership recruitment and sales.
Strong customer-service orientation.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze online community data.
Proven ability to take ownership of assigned projects and processes.
Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
Strong ability to edit and curate membership content.
Strong organizational and project management and multi-task projects.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote work environment.
Diligent, well organized, reliable, energetic.
Self-starter with strong attention to detail.
