Reporting to theAssistant Director, Billing and Collections, the Sponsored Research CollectionsFinancial Analyst will apply critical thinking to financial and otherinformation presented within the scope of their responsibilities, researchissues/questions related to sponsored awards and communicates information tomanagement in a timely and effective manner to ensure time collection ofoutstanding invoices owed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). The primary responsibility of this position is collections for sponsoredresearch awards.
Monitor all outstanding receivables forsponsored research awards and follow the internal department policy to supporttimely collection of payments
Communicate withsponsors that have past due invoices owed to VUMC to determine the cause ofpayment delay and provide any additional documentation necessary to the supportthe invoice, with input from the appropriate department as needed.
Prepare/review journalentries for accuracy, ensuring that adequate and complete supportingdocumentation is attached; Perform data entry or prepare upload files forjournal entry processing into the general ledger system.
Perform various routineinternal monitoring analysis/functions as needed for sponsored awards.
Communicate effectivelyand timely with business administrators, award sponsors and team members.
Evaluate alternativetreatment of transactions and recommend proper course of action; analyzeeffects of transactions upon account relationships.
Verify proper recordingof individual transactions or groups of transactions using exception reports.
Approve and verifytransactions in various financial systems
Complete and maintainaccounting reconciliations of transactions and accounts which may requiredetailed and complex research.
Accumulate, analyze andsummarize routine, detailed data in order to prepare financial reports andschedules.
Manage high volumesutilizing expert time management skills, including multitasking.
Manage workload based onweekly, monthly or quarterly deadlines. Support team during month-end andyear-end close.
Develops, analyzes, andconducts financial analyses to assess the viability of financial plans andprograms, under occasional guidance. Develops financial statements,compensation analyses, financial packages, and presentations for variousprojects.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in collections;journal entries and complex/detailed reconciliations; grants, contracts orother sponsored awards
- Excellent written andoral communication skills
- Thrives in a teamenvironment
- Solid computer skillsin MS Office Suite of Products 2016; Business Objects
- Uses critical thinking and process improvement skills;applies knowledge gained from relevant experience
