Reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Enrollment and the Executive Director of Admissions, the Executive Director for Strategic Initiatives and Planning (EDSIP) works in deep partnership with leadership within the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA) and the University of Pittsburgh to deliver project management, strategic planning, and implementation in support of OAFA's strategic plan and the University's enrollment goals. The EDSIP is a seasoned professional and works in partnership with the Vice Provost for Enrollment in the creation, management, analysis and communication of the strategic plan as well as with the Executive Director of Admissions in the creation, planning, and implementation of key strategic operational initiatives as part of OAFA's strategic plan. This individual will build and strengthen relationships, mobilize teams and resources in order to successfully implement strategic initiatives, and will work across all OAFA units, the University, campuses, and external partners with key stakeholders. The EDSIP will create, plan, implement, and execute strategic initiatives and provide consulting expertise and program management for specific strategic initiatives that are deemed critical to achieving enrollment goals and University success. The EDSI will build strategies, facilitate planning sessions, and drive change activities. This includes acquiring community buy-in, ownership, and accountability, and coordinating the efforts of OAFA and University-wide teams, external agencies, etc. to deliver projects and goals according to the strategic plan and in consultation with the Executive Director of Admissions and Vice Provost for Enrollment. Managing key relationships with University and external partners and using data to inform decision-making is critical to the success of this position. The EDSIP will require a high degree of client engagement with excellent facilitation, influence, and strategic consulting skills. This individual must work well in a collaborative team and have proven ability to influence and drive change while paying particular attention to all details, small and large, that will affect Pitt and its students, employees, and campuses now and in the future. This individual is responsible for ensuring that information about strategic priorities, significant initiatives, and events are communicated to the appropriate audience(s) at the appropriate time(s) through the appropriate channel(s). With a high degree of emotional intelligence, the EDSIP provides strategic guidance and good counsel to Senior Leadership team members to ensure appropriate communication at all levels of the organization, keeping all stakeholders informed of strategic planning progress. This individual will work on multiple high priority initiatives throughout the year, serving as the lead on a variety of projects, committees, and other priority initiatives. The EDSIP is a member of the Vice Provost for Enrollment's cabinet, will partner with the Vice Provost for Enrollment and senior leaders in OAFA in leading change efforts designed to achieve strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, and business process improvement goals in accordance with the strategic plan. The successful candidate will possess exceptional verbal and written communications skills to communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituents internally and externally, including, but not limited to the Chancellor's and Provost offices, alumni, faculty, staff, high school and transfer students, families, school counselors, college students, support and professional staff as well as with outside agencies and vendors. Must have strong leadership, management, supervisory, organizational, and delegation skills. Strong team orientation and collaborative style; position requires an inclusive approach to engaging stakeholders across the campus in ways that lead to good business decisions and buy-in. Demonstrated ability to conduct complex analyses and provide essential information necessary for operational decision-making Work experiences in a college or university setting preferably in at least one enrollment management functional area that includes admissions, financial aid, new student programs, marketing, registrar, student success, etc. The successful applicant must be a strategic thinker, planner, innovator, and visionary; be a solution-oriented problem solver; have a high level of professionalism, creativity, and enthusiasm; be self-motivated; be self-aware; be flexible and adaptable; have a team attitude and be committed to a student-centered and customer service philosophy; Demonstrated ability to set priorities; to simultaneously plan, implement, and manage a broad scope of competing projects and initiatives that cut across many organizational boundaries. This position will work occasional early morning, late evenings and weekend hours and extended hours as necessary throughout the year. The impact of the position is significant. This position could positively or negatively impact the University's enrollment, reputation, revenue, and enrollment and budget projections. This position reports to the Vice Provost for Enrollment and the Executive Director of Admissions and is a member of the Vice Provost's cabinet.
Master's required; Ph.D. preferred. Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in higher education in a college or university setting preferably with multiple year experience(s) in at least one enrollment management functional area that includes admissions, financial aid, new student programs, registrar, student success, etc. The incumbent must possess exceptional verbal and written communications skills to communicate effectively with a wide variety of constituents internally and externally.
