The Tow Youth Justice Institute, part of the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences at the University of New Haven is seeking a Project Coordinator for the Juvenile Justice Policy Oversight Committee (JJPOC). This full-time, grant funded position for the Tow Youth Justice Institute (TYJI) is a highly responsible position that provides direct support to the TYJI Director of Youth Justice Initiatives, who facilitates the JJPOC, a legislatively body created through 2014 by Public Act 14-217 and is charged with evaluating policies related to the juvenile justice system.
The successful candidate will:
• Collaborate and work with TYJI faculty, staff and students, consultants and subcontractors. • Coordinate, assist, and provide logistical support to JJPOC workgroups andsubgroups.
• Attend JJPOC workgroup and subgroup meetings with TYJI staff and other UNHfaculty, staff, and students and consultants as necessary. • Facilitate JJPOC workgroup and subgroup meetings. • Develop and document meeting logistics, reports, and project plan material.
• Collaborate with TYJI researchers.
Bachelor’s Degree in related subject/concentration. • Demonstrated experience in project coordination and project management. • Demonstrated experience presentation, and public speaking. • Experience working in a related field (criminal justice, juvenile justice, publicpolicy development, public administration, corrections or education).
• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or other presentation software. • Excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing. • Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent time management skills. • Ability to prioritize tasks and multi-task. • Excellent problem-solving skills and good judgment. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Experience with state legislative process. • Additional preferred skills and abilities: • Understanding of project deliverables, timelines, and reporting requirements. • Knowledge of youth serving state and municipal agencies, organizations, non- profit providers of youth (justice) services, secondary schools, law enforcement, advocates and activists, faith community, parents and caregivers, and youth organizations. • Experience/practice in RBA (Results-Based Accountability) and evidence-based approaches as well as data-driven decision-making. • Experience in higher education, University of New Haven, or academicinstitutes.
