The Program in Bilingual/Bicultural Education at Teachers College, Columbia University is seeking to recruit a full-time Lecturer/Coordinator of a new online Advanced Certificate Program (Bilingual Extension Certification), approved by NYSED on March 22, for AY2018-2019. The candidate must have an expertise on bilingual/multicultural language learning and teaching in the content areas and expertise teaching online courses to pre-and-in service bilingual teachers.
Responsibilities: Teach 2-3 fully ONLINE courses in bilingual/bicultural education, particularly, courses addressing the following areas: A&HB 4121 Bilingual curriculum design with a focus on social studies, A&HB 4323 Practicum seminar in bilingual/bicultural settings, and/or A&HB 4028 Literacy in bilingual settings. In addition to the online courses, the new Lecturer also is expected to teach 1-2 courses on campus, A&HB 4024 Linguistic Foundations and/or A&HB 4323 Practicum. Hold regular office hours for both online and on-campus students in the BBE office. Participate in online program administration and development activities with Office of Digital Learning, CIS-Academic Technologies, Continuing Professional Studies; advise, recruit and retain both online and in-person BBE Advanced Cert students; coordinate the online/in-person practicum experiences with BBE supervisors and placements. Provide leadership in bilingual teacher education.
Qualifications: A bilingual speaker with a doctorate in bilingual/bicultural education or an associated field; successful classroom teaching experience in the U.S. public schools with strong quality models of bi/multilingualism; successful experience designing and/or teaching online courses; successful experience working with pre-service and in-service teachers; interest in engaging in programmatic level activities; experience working with minoritized communities; ability to work collaboratively; records of scholarship/publications.
