This position will lead the strategic direction of the Social Policy Institute (SPI) communications and oversee SPI communications with internal and external partners. This will include creation and dissemination of information and promotional materials – print and digital – for both external and internal audiences using appropriate language, style, and media to suit message and audience. Additionally, this will include cultivating relationships and opportunities for SPI through working with external collaborators and in close contact with SPI leadership. Additionally, this position will oversee the production of special events such as panel discussions, symposiums, conferences and other special events.��
This individual must have the ability to develop strategy and content with creative concept development and timely communications. This person will also supervise staff in the development of SPI’s external and internal communications and dissemination efforts.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing Communications and Dissemination
Develop SPI’s communications strategy and serve as point person for the communication of a consistent image or “brand” for SPI.
Lead all internal and external communications strategy, planning, and execution for the center. This includes monitoring, measuring, and gauging the most effective communication avenues for the center and prioritizing resources and opportunities.
Create content, produce, and distribute select print and digital promotional materials, including posters, flyers, newsletters, presentations and invitations.
Disseminate and promote a wide range of policy initiatives and projects with unique reporting and brand considerations.
Lead production projects, including vendor relations.
Create, update, and maintain website and lead strategic planning in use of web-based dissemination.
Serve as a liaison with WUSTL Public Affairs office, collaborating to ensure visibility of the work, intellectual capital, and achievements in internal University publications and in the news media.
Represent the center at external meetings, committees, and events as needed to further communications initiatives.
Oversee and lead development and production of events, such as panel discussions, symposium, conferences and community/stakeholder meetings.
Plan event aspects, such as venue, seating, dining, and guest list.
Supervise and delegate event planning tasks to other staff members where necessary.
Managing and overseeing events on the day of, including problem-solving, directing event set-up, communicating with staff, and organizing vendors, and managing take-down.
Communicating with WUSTL public affairs to ensure promotion coordination.
Create and coordinate content for posting of events and news to internal and external websites and social media.
Oversee scheduling and prepare students, faculty, staff and alumni for interviews and photo and video shoots related to marketing activities.
Create calendar of speakers and events for promotional purposes.
Build distribution lists and support maintenance of client management tool.
Develop and manage a departmental system to track expenses and associated estimates against actual costs, track expenses, complete expense reports, and assist with budget planning for communications and events.
Assist in managing and tracking of event expenses, reimbursements, vendor invoices and purchase orders.
Provide training and support on communications systems, Style Guide, and document formatting.
Coordinate working with external vendors (graphic designers, editors, etc.) as needed.
Maintain brand standards and manage a routine inventory of printed collateral materials.
Participate in regular departmental meetings.
Other activities as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience with event management, excellent interpersonal skills and customer service skills.
Experience with policy communications or public relations.
Master’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or related field.
Experience in social science research or policy setting.
Experience in social science research or policy and experience synthesizing and translating research and policy content for lay audiences.
have proven ability to foster productive working relationships with diverse constituencies and should have the ability to prioritize, organize and communicate effectively.
be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Outlook.
be familiar with Adobe applications, including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.

The hiring range for this position is $47,151 - $61,289 annually.
