The Department of English at Michigan State University invites applications for a one-year, fixed- term Assistant Professor in Film Studies beginning August 16, 2019.
Teaching responsibilities include three courses per semester (3/3 teaching load). Applicants must be prepared to teach a range of lower and upper level undergraduate courses in Film Studies, including Introduction to Film and in areas such as film history, film theory, and film gender and sexuality. Research expertise is open, but we especially welcome applicants working at the intersections of film and new media with issues of diversity and underrepresented groups. The ideal candidate will have emerging expertise in one or more of the following areas: film theory and digital aesthetics, new and emergent media archaeologies, and/or the digital humanities; along with additional expertise in areas such as race & ethnicity, class and inequality, LGBTQ studies, disability studies, and/or feminism.
Housed in the Department of English, the Film Studies Program (http://filmstudies.cal.msu.edu/) offers both a rigorous undergraduate major emphasizing theory and history and two production minors in Fiction Filmmaking and Documentary Production. Doctorate -Film Studies
The applicant must have received a Ph.D. in film studies or its equivalent by the start date.
