The Professional Development Manager works with assigned Practice Groups to develop curricula, manage career advising/mentoring initiatives, and facilitate McDermott University training courses. This position leads the Firm’s First Year Associates onboarding initiatives and engages with administrative teams on business development, project management, surveys, ethics, and diversity programs/initiatives.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: · Assess substantive learning needs of assigned practice groups based on partner and associate feedback · Design curricula and program content, aligning content with Firm and Practice Group competencies and objectives · Develop, coordinate, and oversee execution of Practice Group-specific interactive, mock-style programming · Develop and administer mentoring initiatives, providing guidance to Mentors and Mentees on respective roles and responsibilities · Work with department leadership, to manage the onboarding process, including New Associate Orientation, New Income Partner Orientation, New Capital Partner Orientation, New Associate Integration, and New Income Partner Integration · Manage the design, delivery, and analysis of attorney Professional Development surveys · Prepare and monitor the Professional Development budget · Supervise the workflow and performance of the professional development team members, including providing ongoing feedback and coaching, establishing key performance indicators and metrics, and participating in performance evaluation programs · Research and analyze industry trends related to professional development programs and compliance
Job Specifications: · Bachelor’s degree · 5-7 years of related work experience · Advanced knowledge of training and development methodologies · Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word) · Strong written and verbal communication skills · Strong organizational skills · Strong execution skills, willingness to jump in where necessary · Strong orientation towards meeting and exceeding established goals · Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities · Ability to handle and maintain confidential information and demonstrate good judgment · Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment · Ability to travel occasionally and attend external events · Team player with a proactive and positive approach to the position
