To work in conjunction with web developers to maintain and improve University websites; develop stories and website content for use in media relations/press releases, marketing websites, feature stories, social media marketing and other marketing and communications-related efforts. To assist staff in the management of the departments social media accounts, which include Face Book, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snap Chat, Instagram, Pintrest, You Tube, and others. To serve as one of the editors for the university and to edit content based on the Associated Press Libel and Style Manual, current edition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
(1) Assist in web maintenance and web development requests; perform formatting and assist in delivery of mass emails used for communication and marketing purposes; set up new website pages and content using approved design elements and templates; use various email and web systems; assist with web and email testing; assist with some webpage coding and problem-solving (HTML and CSS); and training of contributors in the use of Cascade CMS.
(2) Write stories such as alumni profiles, student and faculty research stories, content and social media information for marketing websites, which also includes photography of related subjects.
(3) Assist in providing editorial services for university based on application and strict adherence to the Associated Press Style and Libel Manual and in accordance with the University’s approved style guide.
(4) Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree from accredited university of college in digital media studies, web development, computer science, journalism or communication studies.
3-5 years of experience with website maintenance, web and email development, use of website CMS and email systems, working with website contributors, coding in HTML and CSS, story and content development.
Experience in journalism and general writing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong computer abilities including word processing, spreadsheets, email and image editing, content management system experience such as Drupal or Cascade, strong business writing and/or marketing writing skills, as well as media writing. Ability to multi-task and organize work into manageable portfolio of projects. Mac OS experience a plus. Selected individual will also participate in department’s strategic planning process and help set direction for future work.
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
