Under direct supervision of the Director of Hospitality, the Events Supervisor will supervise 1 full time career Catering Coordinator, 20-30 on call student workers and 10-15 limited on call staff. He/She will work closely with Dining Services and the Events and Rental departments to ensure successful implementation of events, engage with potential clients, guests and staff in a high volume dining environment and must independently prioritize tasks and duties in order to achieve departmental goals and objectives. Must be able to contribute to general marketing strategy and ideas to attract top clientele, meet review goals and supervise and coach catering staff to deliver consistent professional services.
This position involves staffing and event oversight along with complex planning, logistics, and successful client engagement that results in catering sales growth and positive client feedback. Facilitates all logistics for in-house, campus and public community events such as luncheons, weddings, formal seated dinners and buffets. Ensures that both client and department needs are met through production of high quality events.
•Manage sales and interact with clients frequently to ensure event success. Manage multiple events simultaneously. •Supervise operational staff, which may include students, on-call limited staff and volunteers, who provide comprehensive public event and/or fundraising support services. •Selects and trains student workers, including developing training materials, evaluates, schedules and as required implements appropriate performance management actions. •Assumes leadership role in emergency situations, including leading evacuations or other safety related procedures and performs crisis intervention as needed. •Compiles reports for management as required. •Prepare detailed specifications for clients catering requests; ascertain rental equipment, secure and engage with vendors, order supplies and negotiate prices. •Develop supply check lists and related tools to streamline internal operations.•Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience and training. A typical combination would include graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Food Service Management, Hospitality Management or related field, plus a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in a professional dining, event planning and/or catering environment. •Working knowledge of supervisory principles, concepts and best practices and skill to select, lead, direct, mentor, and guide staff, as well as effective performance management techniques. •Proven record of project management and organizational skills. •Excellent interpersonal communication skills to build and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment; build and maintain good working relations at all organizational levels and external stakeholders. •Excellent written and verbal communications skills. •Political acumen and skill in judgment, decision-making and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution, including ability to lead and direct staff effectively and in a professional manner. •Excellent leadership skills, including skills to lead, direct, mentor, evaluate and motivate staff. •Skilled in Microsoft word and catering software platforms such as Reserve Cloud a plus. •Must be able to multi-task, working on several events simultaneously. •Able to occasionally move or lift up to 50 pounds and endure long periods of walking and standing. •Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as required. •Must obtain Serve-safe Managers certification or Food Handlers Card within the first 90 days of employment.
