The Office of Admissions is seeking an Editor/Writer to assist with developing, writing and editing materials in order to produce a range of print and digital publications to support student recruitment communications and marketing. The position provides exposure to a breadth of activity across the communications team. The Editor/Writer will have the opportunity to develop marketing and communication skills while staying focused on the changing needs of our primary audience (Gen Z students).
This position extends MSU’s brand through internal and external communication, including writing, editing, and proofing a variety of communications, including websites, print publications, letters and invitations, brand ads, social media posts, emails, and awards entries.
This position collaborates regularly with other units and departments on recruitment activities. The Editor/Writer reports to the marketing and communications manager and supports the communication director.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program such as a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications Arts, Advertising, Event planning or related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in management, publications design and editing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require the ability to read, write, and translate one or more foreign languages
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate to diverse audiences using various communication methods
Ability to prioritize and stay on task while balancing multiple projects simultaneously
A self-starter with strong customer service skills
Social media savvy
Innovative, forward-thinking, committed, highly organized and adaptable
Skilled in Microsoft Office 365, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Instagram, YouTube
Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations
May require valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of the position.
Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
