Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a teaching lab associate or coordinator to support faculty who teach in the areas of instrumentation, engineering design, engineering project management and design, grain processing and handling, and other hands-on courses.
Responsibilities for the teaching laboratory associate include purchasing and stocking lab supplies, maintaining lab equipment and PPE supplies, promoting personal safety and safe working environment, developing laboratory and safety manuals, configuring and setting-up lab spaces, and designing and building fixtures and equipment for teaching lab activities. This position also provides training to faculty, staff, students, and student clubs on proper safety procedures in labs and with lab equipment; hires, trains, and oversees student lab technicians; coordinates the operation and maintenance of the department's waterjet.
The teaching lab coordinator also will provide technical leadership to externally funded research programs in the area of advanced machinery engineering and manufacturing systems.
The successful candidate should possess strong organizational skills, be an active self- starter, and demonstrate a high attention to detail. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering, applied engineering, industrial technology or industrial engineering. Demonstrated experience with developing training and safety educational materials. Demonstrated experience with conducting training either in a classroom or professional environment. Experience in utilizing, managing, and maintaining manufacturing equipment. Experience in managing students and/or staff in a laboratory setting.
