The Director of Development plays a key role in cultivating relationships and building a culture of philanthropy at MSNV. Reporting to the Head of School and working with the Advancement team, you are the point person for planning and executing fundraising events; assisting with coordinating volunteers; keeping track of all charitable gifts to MSNV (both cash and in-kind); and providing database management through our fundraising database. The Director of Development is a position that organizes and ensures the smooth functioning of the day-to-day fundraising and development operations of the School. The position will work closely with the Director of Accounting and HR as well as other members of the leadership team.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
Work with the Head of School and leadership team to develop and implement Development Plan, including: carrying out annual giving and major gifts programs; and planning and executing special events
Assist the Head of School in building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders through events, volunteerism, ongoing communication and strategic touch points
Maintain accurate and timely records of donor activity in the database. Serves as database manager.
Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.
Provide staff support to Board Development Committee; prepare regular fundraising reports.
Responsible for generating donor acknowledgement letters.
Creates regular updates and reports for Head of School, Director of Accounting, Development Committee, and Board of Trustees
Plans and executes fundraising events, such as the Leadership Recognition event and the school auction in coordination with the Events Coordinator.
Assists with creating a Case for Giving and a yearly strategic annual giving plan, including strategies for solicitation of all constituent groups
Works with the Director of Marketing Communications to prepare appeals and publications
Works with Director of Parent Engagement on alumni relations
Provides regular news updates for the weekly calendar and monthly newsletter
Facilitates the timely collection of pledges by June 30 of each year
Assists in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, recognizing, and stewarding major donors
Manages and supports volunteers engaged in the fundraising process
Research potential grant funding opportunities
Special projects as assigned
Familiarity with workings of a development department
Willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge Database
Strong organizational, communication, data management and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as a self-starter
Excellent project management and follow-up skills
Strong attention to detail; accuracy a must
Flexibility in work schedule, as needed
Communicates, inspires, and educates the community about the critical needs of MSNV and how donors can support MSNV through philanthropic investment
Understands that a robust annual giving program creates an ongoing culture of philanthropy and is the platform for all major giving
Displays an innate ability to show respect for and to honor the dignity of all donors, regardless of gift level, and communicates from a tolerant/nonjudgmental perspective
