Reporting to the AVP, Portfolio Management Office within Columbia University's Information Technology group (CUIT); the Project Director provides full lifecycle project management of multi-client projects that range in complexity and type. Projects will cover a suite of IT services, including, but not limited to: Infrastructure, Applications, Communications, Process Transformation, Identity Management and other IT related initiatives. The Project Director is responsible for managing scope, cost, quality, personnel, communication, risk, procurement and may be required to work with other project leads on complex efforts or as part of a program. Project Directors should be adept at utilizing the leading industry frameworks, methodologies and techniques to successfully drive outcomes on behalf of their clients. Clients will vary by project and effective client engagement is paramount to the role's success. Overall, the project director is accountable for the success or failure of their respective project or assignment.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead, direct and coordinate all project management activities for assigned projects
Ensure projects remain on schedule, on budget and are completed with the desired quality
Business Analyst duties as needed, including requirements gathering, solutioning, and test planning
Assess on-going/future customer requirements and operational needs
Responsible for creating, tracking, controlling and reporting on project budgets and related financials
Single point of contact for all aspects of assigned projects or programs
Determine resource and skills requirements for project team staffing
Allocate assigned staff, approved budget, and other resources according to guidelines
Manage inter-project and operational resource demands as required
Partner with VMO, Finance, Security, Architecture, third party vendors and other groups as needed
Responsible for managing issues, risks, and key decisions
Responsible for identifying resolution or go forward assumptions for project issues/risks
Responsible for escalating and remediating project issues
Ensure change readiness strategies are identified and implemented
Ensure project readiness for internal and external audit
Responsible for other Portfolio Management Office related duties as assigned
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience is required.
Minimum 7-9 years related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Detailed knowledge of project management methodologies
Experience managing complex technical projects for the entire life cycle
Strong investigative and business analysis skills
In-depth understanding of the business & supporting strategies
Knowledge of technology, applications and interfaces designed to support the business
Professional presentation and advanced communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving, deadline-driven environment
Strong team and consensus building capability
Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects
Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Weekend and off-hour work may be necessary on occasion
Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in MS Office Project, MS Visio, G Suite productivity and related SDLC or PM tools
Certifications in Agile, PMP, or PRINCE2
ITIL certification a plus
