The Career Center's mission is to provide career exploration assistance, internship, and employment resources to students and alumni, create partnerships to support students in their career transitions and promote life-long career engagement. One of two Assistant Directors in a comprehensive, centralized career center, this position serves students, alumni and the employment community.
Cultivate relationships with industries and community to generate career, employment, and internship opportunities; respond to inquiries from employers and community with regard to employment and internship issues and questions.
Develop internal relationships with faculty and staff through individual meetings, training sessions, and communications to increase awareness of career readiness initiatives.
Work with academic colleges/schools departments and experiential learning and outreach staff to further internship awareness, development, and to encourage consistency with data management and collection through events and outreach.
Serve as a member of the career center Employer Relations team in the short and long-term planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming, services, resources, and events. Work closely with Career Education team members to plan and implement programming and initiatives for connecting employers and students.
Provide individual and group career and job/internship search guidance, services, and resources to students and alumni.
Create and deliver group and classroom presentations; develop and implement career related events that bring employers and candidates together to promote growth and generate skill development, discovery, and internship and employment opportunities for SCSU students.
Coordinate related databases and software; maintain employer records in online system, and generate and analyze reports.
Provide regular supervision and guidance to assigned undergraduate and graduate student staff as needed.
Master's Degree in Counseling, Student Development/Personnel/Affairs, Higher Education, Business or related area and three (3) years of experience in a comprehensive career center at a professional level position in a higher education setting or Bachelor's degree with five or more (5+) years of experience working within an employer relations or recruitment career field
Demonstrated skills and abilities to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds
Functional knowledge of the world of work and an ability to teach the concepts of career selection, the internship and job search process, and other basics of career readiness
Demonstrated excellence and creativity in program development and oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of leading edge technologies and experience with use of technology. Examples: career services management platforms such as Handshake, GradLeaders or Symplicity; on-line presentation development, social media utilization, appointment management systems; advanced use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel beneficial
Ability to generate and analyze reports with proven attention to detail
Knowledge of practices and procedures related to educational outreach and retention
Demonstrated ability to promote positive internal and external relations with faculty, staff, and administration and employer and community partners
Experience with supervisory functions of staff and/or students
Ability to set short and long term goals to fulfill the University's mission to prepare students for life and work in the 21st century
Previous experience managing large scale projects or events effectively and efficiently
Excellent customer service as well as strong organizational and project-management skills
Ability to uphold the basic ethical principles and practices set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers and the National Career Development Association/American Counseling Association in all personal interactions involving students, recruiters, and alumni
Knowledge of hiring practices for international students preferred
