Under the supervision of the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Marketing, the Director of Publications and Lead Storyteller is a writer and editor and will coordinate the production of Rye Country Day School’s publications. The Director of Publications and Lead Storyteller draws on strong written and creative communication skills to share the mission and work of the school to diverse audiences (parents/guardians, alumni, faculty, staff, students, prospective families, and the public). This position will partner closely with administrators/faculty/staff throughout the school.
Lead and oversee production of print publications including The Bulletin (bi-annual print magazine), Excellence Newsletter, printed annual calendar, capital campaign materials, strategic plan materials, the annual report, and admissions print publications.
Strategize, develop, and edit content and news stories that convey the school’s programmatic offerings, key strategic messages, and values.
Assist all school departments with writing, rewriting, and editing of internal and external content and communications as needed, maintaining a consistent school voice.
Interview constituents to write content and news articles of interest to the school for the web and for print.
Develop 3-4 news stories each week for the website and weekly e-newsletter.
Edit weekly e-notes, website content, social media posts, and other school communications.
Collaborate in the ongoing discussion around the school’s strategies for marketing and communications.
Assist in coordinating and managing photographers and videographers.
Partner closely with the division principals, department chairs, coordinators/directors of strategic initiatives, the marketing team, the admissions team, the office of development/alumni affairs, and others throughout the school.
Excellent editorial and writing skills
Portfolio demonstrating a proven track record of managing publications
Strong academic background
Understanding of independent school messaging
Ability to write for multiple platforms including social media, web, email, and print
Strong project management and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize managing multiple deadlines
Attention to detail, proactive in nature
Strong interpersonal skills. A teamplayer. Ready and willing to pitch in as needed
