Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Director. The Director will provide operational oversight of the Data Center, Cloud and Virtualization Services, and Systems Engineering units, including budgeting, resource planning, and the creation of policies, procedures, and standards. This position will report to the Executive Director of Enterprise Infrastructure and Research Computing and will provide the leadership and vision to create, implement, and manage the strategic direction for the University system's public/private cloud infrastructure and services.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Work extensively with all constituencies to maintain the highest level of service and satisfaction, including collecting feedback on constituent needs, potential use-case scenarios, and constituent priorities for integration in the future direction of public/private cloud infrastructure and services.
Create business models for expanding and sustaining the evolving set of cloud infrastructure and services. Identify opportunities for appropriate IT investment and asses the risk associated with those investments.
Develop a budget for lifecycle management of infrastructure and continuous evolution of cloud services.
Advise the Executive Director, Chief Information Officer, and other unit professionals regarding best practices and effective cloud infrastructure and service design and management.
Have knowledge of trends and issues in the IT industry, including technologies and pricing, especially as they relate to higher education.
Prepare high-level briefings and presentations on the direction and impact of cloud infrastructure and service efforts.
Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure and staffing to effectively and efficiently implement cloud infrastructure and services. Recruit, employ, train, supervise, and evaluate unit staff.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Information Security; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
years of practical, on-the-job experience in information technology.
Experience should include communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
Experience in a higher education setting supporting faculty and students is strongly preferred.
Four (4) years experience in project management, organizational, and leadership skills
Three (3) years of experience
in security architecture creating key artifacts including architectural principles, requirements traceability, use cases, reference architectures, and network/system security drawings is preferred.
Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methodology of a highly technical, professional, or administrative occupation is indicative of this level.
Knowledge of current and emerging processes, technologies, and applications within the data center and public/private cloud spaces.
Ability to identify, assess, and implement emerging trends in data center management and the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure and services.
Professional mastery of data center, server, and storage technologies and management principles with emphasis on network, server, and storage virtualization technologies.
