Join the AMA team as the Manager, Technical Product Management in Periodical Publishing. As part of the team, you will develop technical requirements, specifications and standards to maintain a suite of sustainable and operationally scalable products within the Periodical Publishing Group and the AMA Education Center. Manage the operation and support of all web and mobile products. Support the Director, Product Management with developing the hosting and ongoing improvement strategy for JAMA Network and AMA Education Center web and mobile applications. Lead the internal microsite development team in efforts to improve and automate processes.
A key accountability is coordinating with the editorial, support and business development teams to ensure successful launches, enhancements and adoption in the market for their product portfolio. Directly supports the growth of online readership, citations, advertising sales, and the institutional business through the maintenance of sustainable, automated digital marketing infrastructure.
Other Responsibilities will include:
Evolves and grows the Technical Product Management team to establish a center of excellence for bug triage, requirements gathering, wireframing, scrum management, microsite development, and ongoing application enhancements and support.
Product research and planning, including requirements development and release coordination, working to support the Director, Product Management, Sr. Product Manager and other key editorial and business stakeholders. Uses customer intelligence and analytics to troubleshoot and improve web and mobile applications. Execute software development lifecycle plans engineered to increase the discoverability and engagement with all JAMA Network Digital publications, products, and services.
Lead internal working teams to define automation strategies to register and engage individuals (physicians, health care professionals, and others interested in medical information) within and outside of institutions (medical schools, universities, hospitals, and corporations.
Reporting, market/opportunity scoping, product performance tracking and analysis. Product management including sales-facing support and pricing and deal support. Change management and cross-business coordination.
Lead, mentor and provide management oversight for staff. Responsible for setting objectives evaluating staff performance and staff development.
BA or BS required; an advanced degree preferred but appropriate experience can substitute for this requirement
Minimum 7 years’ experience in STM publishing industry and/or digital education business with knowledge of health science research and clinical periodical business models and revenue patterns
Minimum of 7 years’ experience providing business analysis, authoring requirements and users stories for digital platforms supporting electronic information products
Experience preferred serving as lead ‘scrum product owner’ representing the voice of customer, business, and user within agile software development team frameworks.
Experience in a supervisory role required, leading teams in product management preferred.
A solid foundational understanding of new technologies including mobile computing platforms, XML/XQUERY/XSLT, content management platforms, search/semantics and HTML/CSS
Proven track record in the responsibilities above and of driving product growth through innovation
Demonstrable communication, project management, problem solving, and quantitative analysis skills
Strong leadership, selling and influencing skills that achieve results at all levels of management
Experience in presenting and communicating key concepts and ideas across all areas of the organization
Some travel required
