Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director provides project management oversight in order to support strategic departmental initiatives related to the Fintech Initiative and other academic initiatives activities at CBS undertaken by the Executive Director. The Associate Director's core responsibilities include managing and developing the Initiatives' operations, fundraising, marketing and media communications, including all outbound channels such as newsletters, social networks, website, other digital media and presence at events in collaboration with the Strategic Communications department.
Responsibilities: 1.Independently manages and executes projects in support of the Fintech Initiative assigned by the Executive Director. Serves as the first point of contact and "go-to" person for issues or discrepancies that arise and works closely with senior leaders in various departments as well as students and external constituents.
2.Partners with the Executive Director to support the buildup of two additional initiatives at CBS, working in collaboration with other centers and programs while being a self-starter, proactive in ideation, and highly independent in execution of objectives.
3.Liaison to and from across the Columbia Business School community, including outside partners, to collaborate on events programs, and seminars ensuring positive and proactive communications with all levels of the organization and the larger community.
4.Independently manages the overall planning and execution for corporate outreach, sponsorship and fundraising opportunities, in collaboration with the External Relations and Development department. Activities include, but not limited to, strategic planning, fundraising, outreach, event planning, alumni relations and related activities to ensure a cohesive, accretive, and highly-coordinated action plan is implemented and executed. Attend meetings while adhering to the highest professional code of conduct in client interactions as a representative of CBS. Works to advocate for the Institute with the goal of increasing donor engagement. Provides reporting to the Executive Director in regular meetings.
5.Collaborates with the Financial Planning Office to manage and reconcile expense reports, budgeting, accounting and forecasting ensuring compliance with all University policies and guidelines.
6.Develops and implements a communication strategy to enhance visibility of the Institute among its chief internal and external constituents, working with the CBS PR team. As part of this strategy implementation, writes, produces, edits and executes program communications as needed.
7.Independently oversees the overall planning and execution related to speaker events, lectures, workshops, seminars, summits, and conferences. Works with vendors on overall planning as well as managing catering, services, invoices and expenses.
8.Manages and maintains center website and creates and maintains a social media presence to further build awareness of the Initiative. Writes and distributes the newsletter as well as the annual report, conference report, and lecture reports for internal constitutes as well as alumni.
9.Manages all aspects of communications and in-person meetings with both the Academic and Industry Advisory Board as well as planning and managing the complex calendar of activities involving Board members.
10.Develop, maintain and manage various databases of four to five main constituents working in partnership with ITG/CUIT, with the goal of maximizing outreach capabilities and executing a cost-efficient and technically-savvy communication strategy and digital content.
11.Hire and train student work study students for the Institute as needed.
12.Other related duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 4-6 years related experience required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: The incumbent must be a proven team player, able to work cooperatively in small groups as well as independently with changing priorities and multiple responsibilities. Prior experience working with financial information required. Must be pro-active with excellent organizational and communication skills, acute attention to detail and computer literate. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required with strong excel, PPT, and graphics skills required. Must exercise tact and discretion when interacting with international faculty, administrators, leaders in academia, business, and with students. Cultural sensitivity required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in communications and familiarity with social media and content marketing preferred. Previous experience in the academic environment. Previous experience with event planning and production is desirable.
