Where the Chemistry Happens
The Director of Project Support Services provides leadership to the Project Support Services department for Capital Projects. The primary objective of the department is to support capital project execution, while meeting cost, schedule, and quality targets. This group provides services for manufacturing facilities across the North America ranging from writing project execution comments to serve Commission S decisions, supporting front-end engineering, design, expert consulting, to direct project controls of new chemical plants, major expansions and debottlenecking of existing plants and infrastructure facilities.
Responsible for the successful planning and execution of capital projects (cost, schedule, quality), you will manage staff and assign them to activities based on Manufacturing, Project Support Services and Global Capital Project community needs. You will also monitor the progress of those activities, providing the necessary guidance and decision making to help ensure their success. In addition, you will oversee and provide input for the development and optimization of relevant corporate project support services (Cost, Schedule, Quality) work processes, best practices, and tools.

Formula for Success
Leveraging your academic background in Engineering coupled with extensive professional experience in engineering and/or project management for large capital projects, in the refining or chemical industry, you will ensure capital investments are properly planned and effectively executed (detail engineering, construction and commissioning) in order to meet the Business Unit's safety, cost, schedule and functionality objectives.
You will oversee Engineering Service companies that are providing supplemental project support services to capital projects and ensure reliable Document Management and Document Control services for the capital projects.
You will utilize your in-depth knowledge of project cost estimating, scheduling, and controlling to develop staffing plans for capital projects and assign department staff, providing them with both technical and administrative support during their assignments; you will support and monitor the progress of capital project execution, providing guidance and corrective measures when performance targets are not being met and/or issues arise.
Your cross-disciplinary knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, process, civil, piping, mechanical, construction and TAR will serve you well as you collaborate with counterparts in the Global Engineering organization to globally align the development/enhancements of technical rules, engineering work flows, and engineering tools and ensure that BASF procedures, guidelines, and technical standards are consistently and correctly applied for capital projects.
You will be a key contributor to the global PLATES escalation forecasting tool by providing input that is critical to enabling accurate forecasting for future equipment, material and construction labor costs; you will monitor the contractor labor market and regional capital project planning in the industry, in order to provide strategic recommendations for potential project investments.
Working with Procurement, you will establish the most efficient strategy for cost competitive contractor resources and material supply based on the overall demand for capital projects in North America.
