The School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) at the University of Michigan is seeking a qualified Project Manager to provide project management services on behalf of the Director of Academic Programs. Applicants will have the ability to carefully plan, execute, and monitor special projects for the Office of Academic Programs. The Office of Academic Program seeks someone who excels at collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders. Applicants should have a strong interest in higher education, specifically graduate student services, and technology and process improvement.
The selected individual will work directly with members of the Office of Academic Programs, leadership across SEAS, faculty and students to assure the successful completion of projects designed to improve process and systems to enhance the quality and success of the SEAS’ academic programs. This position will be responsible for all aspects of identified projects, from original concept through completion (research, analysis, resource identification, status reports, recommendation, implementation, and status review).
Providing timely and relevant communication to management allowing informed decision making regarding potential project risks, resource conflicts, and scope changes.
Developing documentation for various projects, including project plans and reports to stakeholders.
Maintaining a working knowledge of project scope and objectives.
Establishing and documenting project scope and expectations. Producing and disseminating project communications, including writing and reviewing project deliverables. Maintaining a project calendar.
Collaborating with project stakeholders regarding status of specific project milestones. Working with others to document project scope and adjust priorities and timelines based on resource conflicts, resource availability, and other constraints. Identify and collect metrics, evaluate and share results.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Engineering, Public Policy, Information or equivalent combination ofexperience, certification, and education.
Minimum of three years of project management experience.
Skills and abilities required include leadership, confidentiality, timeliness, customer service,organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, and working independently.
Ability to lead and motivate project teams to meet customer expectations and deadlines.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
Comfortable working with individuals at all levels of the organization including technical subject matter experts, departmental representatives, and upper management.
Demonstrated ability to understand technical information and communicate it to others clearly and concise.
Strong presentation skills when speaking to audiences both large and small.
Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, database applications and project management applications (MS Project).
Desire to learn more about the discipline of student services project management.
Effective communication and strong negotiation and collaboration skills.
Ability to recognize and solve problems quickly.
