Working under the direction of more senior level physicists, this position is responsible for ensuring the development and operation of a comprehensive imaging physics program. This position provides support for imaging services in the pursuit of quality outcomes and meeting the standards required to ensure a high degree of patient, provider and employee satisfaction and safety.
Schedules, monitors and performs quality control tests on imaging equipment, including acquisition, display, and storage devices, workstations, digital acquisition devices and modality interface devices (e.g. laser cameras, etc.) Interprets results, maintains records and prepares regulatory reports for accreditation and regulatory bodies. Coordinates activities with other physicists and imaging staff to assure compliance with organization standards. Provides instruction regarding appropriate test methodology for display devices, film processors and printers. Maintains appropriate and adequate test instrumentation for quality control activities in the region.
Assists in evaluation of new imaging modalities under consideration by the organization. Performs, or addresses issues related to, specification, acceptance testing, quality assurance, regulatory standards and maintenance of imaging equipment.
Maintains the high quality operation of multiple modality specific imaging equipment. Responds to calls for assistance on imaging equipment, providing assistance with operation, or summoning support as appropriate.
Performs x-ray room shield design and subsequent shield testing for new construction and replacement x-ray producing products.
Performs measurements of routine and special patient exposure. Performs performance tests on complex imaging equipment and provides radiation safety in-services, as needed.
May contribute to various research efforts.
Requires a M.S. in medical physics, physics, engineering or related field. 2 years experience required.
Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Medical Physics or eligibility required.
Ph.D. in medical physics, physics, engineering or related field preferred. Board certification in Medical Nuclear Physics preferred. Prior experience in research physics preferred.Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
