Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, the National Anti-Vivisection Society (NAVS), is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending harmful, flawed and costly animal experiments through the advancement of smarter, human-relevant research and the promotion of animal-friendly changes to laws and policies. NAVS seeks a Director of Programs. This highly collaborative, detail-oriented position will develop and implement NAVS’ programmatic efforts. Working with the Director of Legal/Legislative Programs and Science Advisor, as well as with other departments, the Director of Programs will lead the planning, implementation and reporting of NAVS’ legislative advocacy, scientific advancement, outreach programs, grant applications and animal assistance programs.
Specific responsibilities include:
Develop, implement, monitor, analyze and and report on programs that advance NAVS’ mission in a strategic and impactful manner.
Identify program goals in collaboration with department heads and Executive Director.
Provide resources, guidance and support aimed at advancing programmatic goals.
Develop program schedule and ensure adherence to all timetables.
Manage day-to-day activities in support of ongoing programs.
Establish and adhere to overall and individual annual program budgets.
Work with the Director of Communications and Development and the Director of Innovation to increase visibility, awareness, and effectiveness of programs.
Serve as liaison with external stakeholders as needed.
Supervise work of Program Assistant.
Proven track record of developing and implementing programs in a non-profit environment.
Interest in, and commitment to, the NAVS mission.
Excellent organizational skills; must be able to prioritize and direct multiple projects simultaneously.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop, monitor and work within a budget.
Bachelors’ degree with at least 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
Proficiency in CRM software (e.g. Raiser’s Edge, Luminate)
Ability to travel locally and nationally.
