The University of Maryland School of Medicine, Institute of Human Virology (IHV), Center for International Health, Education and Biosecurity (CIHEB) is currently comprised of a global team of more than 500 personnel in six countries in sub-Saharan Africa. CIHEB is providing care and treatment to hundreds of thousands of HIV clients, training thousands of health workers, building capacity of local institutions, implementing evidence-based interventions, and conducting evaluation and research studies in Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia.
CIHEB is recruiting for a Regional Biostatistician reporting to the Director of Data Management and Data Science for Implementation. The primary responsibilities of the Biostatistician is to provide statistical expertise and support using SAS, STATA, R, or other analytical tools to analyze client-level or aggregate data. s. The Biostatistician shall provide technical assistance on data management and programming, and statistical analysis to CIHEB team.
Location: One of the CIHEB sub-Saharan country offices (housing allowances included).

Roles and Responsibilities:
Design and conduct statistical analysis in collaboration with CIHEB team and collaborators.
Write detailed analysis plans for research and evaluation studies.
Use SAS, STATA and R to analyze data and conduct complex statistical analysis (e.g., longitudinal, time series, mixed effect modeling, logistic regression analyses).
Contribute to writing, editing and reviewing manuscripts, reports, posters, and presentations.
Create, manage, and maintain databases.
Develop and use macros or other procedures for automating statistical analysis.
Provide technical support, including training, to other CIHEB staff on data management, programming, and analysis and interpretation of the results.
Conduct regular data quality assessment and collaborate with the team to identify gaps and solve problems.
Create and maintain up-to-date data analysis documentation (e.g., programming codes, filing structure, logbook, data dictionary).
Participate to meetings, share updates on status of assigned activities, and other work responsibilities.
Perform other duties as needed.
Education: Masters in statistics or mathematics.
Experience: Two (2) years of statistical analysis experience involving analyzing studies using a range of statistical techniques in a related environment.
Education: Masters degree in epidemiology or public health
Experience: Three (3) years of statistical analysis experience analyzing studies using a range of statistical techniques in a related environment.
PhD in statistics or quantitative methods with survey and modeling experience.
Experience with analyzing HIV-related health outcomes and conducting longitudinal and time series analysis are strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to use core statistical skills for data analysis
Good knowledge of data science and data science methods
Strong ability to work with appropriate coding/scripting languages
Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
Ability to work as part of a team and independently perform or lead research activities.
